The Magarey Lane vineyard, planted in 1989, has supplied grapes to many famous brands such as Reschke, and over the past 30 years, the largely unirrigated vines have matured and are producing wonderfully ripe and concentrated wines.
Deep, polished and unmistakably Coonawarra, this Cabernet Sauvignon opens with lifted aromas of blackcurrant, plum and dark cherry, layered with dark chocolate, cedar, subtle mint and finely judged oak. The palate is concentrated, structured and beautifully balanced, delivering blackcurrant, ripe plum and cherry with a savoury edge of cocoa, spice and dried herbs. A serious and expressive Coonawarra Cabernet with richness and balance. Rich, structured and impressively balanced. Rating: 96 Points; Vino Masters
I'd be pretty happy being able to access seven-year-old Coonawarra Cabernet of this quality. It immediately strikes with a fairly typical wave of blackcurrant, dark plum, and syrupy chocolate, dark cherry liqueur character, which is immediately engaging. The palate shows nice understated oak influence, which is a mix of French and American, and hence that subtle vanillin sweetness sits within. Tannins are quite fine, and the fruit soft, round, and textured, but still with that Cabernet structural core that defines through to the long finish. It's a wine that is drinking right on its own now, but it still has capacity to age. Drink to: 2026-2033; Price: $115.00; Rating: 94 Points; Ray Jordan
