Grosset Wines philosophy has remained steadfast over thirty years. The emphasis is on purity of fruit. The organically managed vineyards are hand tended, and each bunch of grapes is harvested at optimum ripeness. The winemaking process is gentle and uncomplicated. With dedication, discipline and the application of knowledge garnered through decades of experience, the result is the finest expression of variety and place.
The ‘Springvale’ also surprises being more intensely primal than it is in most vintages. It entices with lime and lemon blossom aromas. There’s layer after layer of mouth-puckering lime juice flavours, tight structure, spine-tingling acidity and shaley minerally notes that linger. It’s an outstanding ‘Springvale’, fine, intense, pure, minerally and dry.
The aromatics are quintessential Clare Riesling - intense and pure lemon lime, with depth on the mid-palate: mouth-puckering, fine, and lingering on a long, sumptuous finish. Thanks to a cool season, biodynamic farming and the unique site of red loam-over-limestone (and slate), the typical generosity expressed by this wine is enhanced by fresh, powerful varietal characteristics. Produced from Riesling grown at Grosset Springvale Vineyard, certified organic and biodynamic (ACO). Unfined: vegan and vegetarian friendly.
This is peak and pitch-perfect Grosset Springvale. Tension meets an approachable juiciness. It's redolent of all the citrus fruits, from yellow to green to orange, with green apple and blackcurrant leaf. The flavours are similarly set, with a chalky minerality chiming in. Deliciousness abounds. All of this with a quiet power, a grace, and exceptional length. In essence, it delivers on the promise of quality while nailing down drinkability. Something to strive for. Lime, white flowers, cut fennel, green cardamom, a light spicy note. Quite juicy, but there’s also a light chalky grip here, white pepper and apple cucumber coolness, lime rind, a little quinine bite and perfume on a finish of excellent length. It’s a delicious wine, and quite approachable now for my tastes, though of course it will age surely too.
