The Burge Family Winemaking tradition first started in the late 1860s with John Burge, who migrated to South Australia from Wiltshire (UK) in 1855. By the turn of the century, production ceased and all equipment was sold by John’s son Meshach, and it wasn’t until 1928 that John’s grandson ‘Percival’ recommenced winemaking.

Pale gold in color, this Riesling offers classic varietal aromas of herbs, sea salt, honey, citrus, and a hint of buttery richness, beautifully balanced by subtle toasty notes from oak influence. The palate reveals delicate white florals, mint, lime, and a touch of sweet minerality, with an elegant layer of truffle-like complexity that adds depth. Zesty citrus flavors carry through the palate, offering a generous mid-palate and a refreshing balance of fruit sweetness and crisp acidity. The finish is long and layered, leaving a lasting impression.

An ideal growing season resulted in beautiful fruit from the higher altitude of Eden Valley above the Barossa. This Riesling exudes all that is good in the variety. It has a fine citrus note on the nose with lime dominance and a slightly saline character adding further complexity. On the palate, light lemon, chalk dust, and a fine spiciness bring tingle and life. The precise acidity provides the thread that carries through to a very long finish. This is a super example of a classy Riesling in a very good year. While it is drinking well now, further cellaring will reveal what Eden Valley Rieslings are all about with a little age.
