Three varieties very well suited to the McLaren Vale region in South Australia. Bush Vine Grenache provides aromatic lift and bright red fruit characters. Shiraz lends powdery tannin, spice and mid-palate weight, while Mourvèdre rounds out the blend and contributes balance and structure. This wine is a fun and challenging puzzle to assemble each vintage and will age gracefully up to a decade after release.
Blewitt Springs, Seaview and Whites Valley, with all vines north of 70 years; some bunch, some full carbonic, all native ferments, then nine months in seasoned oak. This was picked on the early-ish side, yet the swell of fruit flavour is effusive. And in the best sense. It's a wine that lures you in, seductive with its sultry florals and dark red and black fruits. It's savoury, too, detailed with fine Medina spices and dried Mediterranean herbs. This is perhaps the finest grenache I have tasted from this address, the three district parcels making up an effortlessly complex whole. Superb. Drink to: 2034; Date Tasted: February 2026; Alcohol: 13.9%; Price: $50.00; Rating: 96 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
Grenache grown on 70-year-old bush vines. Beautiful grenache. Bright berried fruits, savoury inputs, a firm (and substantial) framework of tannin and the length to match. Everything is in excellent order here. Redcurrant, earth, flings of aromatic herbs, undergrowth and saltbush. It's a juicy wine, with depth, with authority. Alcohol: 13.9%; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2026-2032+; Rated: 94 Points; Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front
