In 2016 Alex Russell & Lara Suitor started a family and relocated to Lara’s hometown and family in Launceston and they both set their sights on the cooler climate wine making region of Pipers River.
This is a straight, well-structured, line-and-length style of pinot gris with pear, musk, nectarine and aromatic herb notes playing cohesively through the full length of the palate. It’s drinking well now, in a fresh-and-fruity way, but its inherent structure and subtle tautness suggest that it will improve a good deal with some extra time in the bottle. It’s got some tricks, this wine, though a few of them are still tucked up its sleeve. Date Tasted: April 2026; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $35.00; Rating: 92+ Points; Campbell Mattinson
Pale straw with aromas of poached pear, grapefruit, Granny Smith apple and lime, hints of white flowers, crushed stone, almond paste, cut fennel bulb, honeysuckle and minerals. Lightly textured on the palate with a touch of clotted cream and crushed herbs, ripe pear and citrus fruit tones and a dry, savoury endpoint. Drink to: 2031; Date Tasted: March 2026; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $32.00; Rating: 92 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
