The new faces behind the Curtis Family Vineyards are Mark, Thomas & Jenna Curtis, with the guidance of their father, Claudio Curtis who lives on the vineyard just outside McLaren Vale. The name Curtis is thought to derive from Curtius, a noble and wealthy family of the First and Second Centuries AD, the Roman Empire era originating from the Latinium people.
Powerful Shiraz that boasts the sort of density that I expect to find in wine made from seriously old vines. Flavours include dark cherry, cassis, blackberry, chocolate/mocha, and oak/spice. A truly classic Aussie Shiraz with great cellaring potential. Alcohol: 14%; Price: $100.00; Rating: 95 Points; Bob Campbell MW
Fruit comes from 80-year-old vineyards from family and others from respected growers in McLaren. Richly flavoured and appealingly approachable, there is a seamless and seductive palate here, over which the intensity never waivers. Has at least a decade ahead of it. Impressive. Drink: to 2033; Rating: 94 Points; Ken Gargett
