Established in 1977 by Irishman Dr John Lagan, the Xanadu vineyards now owned by the Rathbone family continue to flourish in a near-perfect viticultural environment that inspired Dr Lagan; rich free draining gravel soils; an abundant water supply and a unique maritime climate. Winemaker Glenn Goodall mirrors the original vision; to produce premium wines that reflect the true character of the region in synergy with the environment and vineyards.

The wine displays vibrant, characteristic Cabernet aromas of cassis, mulberries, and blue fruits entwined with hints of mocha, nori, and potpourri. The palate is full-bodied yet refined, the generous palate offers a core of inky berry fruits; boysenberry, blackcurrants and Satsuma plums. Dense and well-structured, the palate is layered with these dark fleshy fruit characteristics and ripe tannins which culminate through to a persistent Cabernet finish. Cabernet Sauvignon (91%), Malbec (6%), Petit Verdot (4%)

Deep, bright purple-red colour. A lifted nose showing crushed leaf herbal notes together with redcurrant and mulberry fruits, highly aromatic, the palate very punchy with concentrated flavour, lashings of tannin and just a smidgin of astringency to lose. The fruit is doing the talking here and yet it has the structure to age long-term: a classic cabernet profile. #1 Cabernet Sauvignon from Margaret River 2024. Date Tasted: September 2026; Drink: 2027 to 2044; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $46.00; Rating: 96 Points; Huon Hooke; The Real Review

A mighty challenge to follow the stellar 2022 and 2023 releases under this label, yet this comes remarkably close. It ticks every box for quality cabernet sauvignon. As has become the house style, there's wonderful elegance, poise and structure. Black currant, bay leaf, black olive and subtle oyster shell minerality create a compelling and complex aromatic opening. The sleek palate conceals tremendous power and structure, seamlessly integrated with fine chalky tannins and beautifully judged oak. Another exceptional release under this label. Drink to: 2026-2039; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $46.00; Rating: 96 Points; Ray Jordan
