The J&J story started from a humble beginning back in the late 1990s when Jeff & Joan Mason planted the now Rivers Lane organic single vineyard on their 5.5ha property. The decision was made to transform the rich fertile acreage from what was previously an ostrich breeding farm to a quality Shiraz vineyard. In 1998 the vineyard was planted in Shiraz variety and the first vintage was in the year 2000.

A worthy wine to celebrate an impressive anniversary, and well priced as well. From a superb vintage in McLaren Vale. Notes of leather, cloves, black olives, chocolate, blackberries and smoked meats – a nose of substance. The texture is plush and seductive, quite creamy, and the wine well focused, generous and with serious length. Ripe in style, it finishes with silky tannins. Absolutely delicious. Really impressive. Richly fruited and enticing, the bouquet shows black/blueberry, clove, violet, and cedar characters with a hint of cocoa. The palate delivers excellent weight and plump mouthfeel, wonderfully framed by fleshy texture and layers of polished tannins, offering terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2034. Date: Jan 2025; Rating: 94 Points; Wine Orbit

A more powerful and structured wine than the standard shiraz. It is still largely fruit-driven with just enough winemaking involvement to manage it through. Intense dark fruits of blackberry and plum with a light dusting of dry earth. Fine chalky tannins provide structure while the wine retains an appealing texture. Like it. Drink to: 2025-2035; Price: $45.00; Rating: 93 Points; Ray Jordan
