Winemaker Darren Haunold can trace his winemaking roots all the way back to medieval Europe and the 12th century royal courts of Austria. Paladin Hill is named after the legendary knights of the Middle Ages, a bringing together of Darren’s heritage with modern Australian winemaking techniques to create bold flavours that improve even more with age.

This is impeccably composed and exquisitely expressed, showing apricot, rockmelon, vanillin oak, and savoury pastry nuances on the nose. The concentrated palate is powerful and refined, with outstanding depth and persistence. Superbly framed by creamy texture and perfectly pitched acidity, finishing wonderfully long and captivating. Since this line was introduced a few years ago, it has impressed, and this release is among the best so far. Picked early enough to avoid the heat of the 2024 vintage, it has a lovely vibrant, pristine character while retaining plenty of flavour intensity. Aromas of butterscotch, quince and crème brûlée lead to a deep, penetrating palate with a complex weave of flavours that build momentum through to a very long finish. A terrific wine. This is a shining deep yellow colour. There is quality oak in evidence, well along in the process of integration and looking good. Melon, nectarine, stone fruits, lemongrass and ginger notes are all found on the nose, but it is that gorgeous stone fruit and ginger which explodes on the palate. There is bright citrusy acidity, a supple texture and serious intensity here, intensity which does not waver for a moment on a long finish. Six to ten years of pleasure ahead of it.
