Coonawarra is renowned as one of Australia's finest wine regions and is particularly known for producing world class red wines especially Cabernet Sauvignon. Think Coonawarra, and thoughts of sumptuous reds spring to mind – from the rich rust-coloured Terra Rossa soil for which it’s internationally recognized, to the prized red wines that have made it famous. All four wines have received 94 Points or better from Australia's leading wine critics which serves to highlight the tremendous quality.

A statuesque cabernet brimful of bold, curranty fruit and with all the complexity and structure you could hope for. This is an absolute beauty. Tobacco, cloves, smoky oak and a range of ripe, dark berried fruit. When Coonawarra cabernet is good, it's exceptional. Drink by: 2042; Price: $32.00; Date Tasted: Dec 2017; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 96 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
The star variety in the stable, and a step up from the other Bordeaux varieties and blends. This is sourced predominately from the older planting circa '74-'88. Dark purple-red, opulent ripe black fruit, a hint of mint and leaf with matching levels of spice and toast from 18 months in 43% new oak. Tannins are fine gravel. Concentrated, dense yet composed. Should age well. Drink by: 2035; Price: $35.00; Date Tasted: Feb 2019; Alcohol: 14.4%; Rating: 96 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
I'm seldom impressed by redesigns of labels that have history on their side. This is an exception, and it also hits home runs in the mouth notwithstanding a challenging vintage. It is a pure rendition of blackcurrant varietal fruit, hints of mulberry and mint attesting to its region. Drink to: 2032; Price: $25.00; Date Tasted: Sept 2019; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 95 Points & Top 100 & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
2015 Review: Largely merlot (60%) and cabernet sauvignon (3%). Balnaves has made this Bordeaux blend its own, defiantly thumbing its nose at Margaret River. It's on the light side of medium-bodied, but ticks all fruit boxes from blue and black, then moving on to the supple mouthfeel ex fine tannins and oak. Drink by: 2027; Price: $20.00; Date Tasted: Mar 2017; Alcohol: 14%; Rating: 94 Points; Top 100 Wines for 2018; James Halliday Wine Companion
