Where once Coonawarra was the undisputed king of Australian Cabernet, in the past two decades, Margaret River has not only made significant ground in claiming that title but surely now made it its own. With a climate not dissimilar to that of Bordeaux the final piece of the jigsaw - price - now allows us to bring 90 Point rated wines at more than reasonable prices. Not only does our StarDozen serve to highlight the exceptional quality and value here but also the remarkably consistently excellent recent vintages that Eastern Australia could only wish for. This collection features 3 bottles each from 4 renowned Margaret River producers with a whopping 90 Points or better from Australia's leading wine critics.

The StarDozen consists of the following:

3 bottles      Miles From Nowhere Best Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
3 bottles      Evans & Tate Redbrook Cabernet Merlot 2018
3 bottles      Evans & Tate Wild Cape Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
3 bottles      Deep Woods Ebony Cabernet Shiraz 2019

Miles From Nowhere Best Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Medium-deep crimson. Espresso, dark berry aromas with hints of black olive. Sweet fruited, smooth and chocolaty with abundant dark berry fruits, fine grainy firm tannins and well integrated acidity. Aniseed notes at the finish. Generous and accessible claret style with a wide appeal. Drink: Now or keep for a while; Rating: 92 Points; Andrew Caillard MW

Evans & Tate Redbrook Cabernet Merlot 2018
Matured in large- and medium-format French oak (15% new) for up to 15 months. 2018 saw the most cabernet franc and malbec ever included in this wine, alongside the cabernet sauvignon and merlot. And to good effect! This is a cracker. Succulent red fruits on the palate, backed by salty spice and a frankly slinky texture. The tannins are shapely and seductive. The whole package is hugely impressive. But not surprising: The Redbrook range of wines rock. Drink to: 2035; Price: $40.00; Rating: 95 Points; Erin Larkin; James Halliday Wine Companion

Voyager Estate The Modern Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
A superb array of aromas on show, which are pretty and understated starting with violets, pine needles and cedar with the 12% Merlot in the blend showing itself in the form of mulberry all kept in check by high quality oak. Juicy, vibrant and mid-weight, there is a delightful upfront, supple appeal to the wine which cascades over the palate in waves before it is tightened up by light, al-dente tannins. Fresh acidity give vibrance to a silky, ethereal finish. I am not always a fan of user-friendly Cabernet but this is stunning, if in an earlier drinking style. Rating: 95 Points; Wine Pilot

Deep Woods Ebony Cabernet Shiraz 2019
A consistent value-for-money offering from one of the best producers in Margaret River. A slightly leaner style to previous vintages, the result of this cooler vintage. Still, the fruit weight balance and all thing nice are in place to make for excellent current drinking. Rating: 90 Points & Top 100 Reds for 2021; Ray Jordan
