Wynns Coonawarra Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
This is the 66th vintage of this Australian classic. The first of these was made in 1954 and I am honoured to say that I have been fortunate to have tasted every one of these vintages through various verticals to celebrate milestones. The wine has never looked better from this exceptional Coonawarra vintage. It’s classic Coonawarra, medium bodied with delightful regional and varietal characters. Leafy and slightly chalky tannin overlay to the vibrant blackcurrant fruit characters. The tannins are super fine and the oak so well played. Perfumed and alive, this is a wine for extended cellaring if you wish. Drink: 2023 - 2053; Price: $45.00; Rating: 96 Points; Ray Jordan
Stonehaven Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Sourced from adjacent rows of 40-year-old vines hand-pruned to control the yield to 5t/ha. Cold maceration and pressed direct to oak for 18 months in French hogsheads. This is a seriously good cabernet from an excellent vintage. Its length is exceptional, as is its structure and slinky tannins, part fruit, part oak. Drink to: 2045; Date Published: August 2023; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 97 Points; James Halliday; The Weekend Australian
Reschke R.S.R Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Subtle French oak seasoning (approximately 18 months) frames the fruit without intruding, contributing gentle spice, cedar and structure. The finish is long, pure and persistent, carrying the varietal signature of Cabernet Sauvignon with effortless grace. This is a benchmark Coonawarra Cabernet defined by depth, line and immaculate structure. A superb expression of region and variety; poised, polished and classically proportioned. Drink: 2026 - 2038; Price: $75.00; Rating: 96 Points; Vino Masters
Penley Steyning Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Matured 18 months in French oak, 30% new. The fruit is in full bloom and the tannin is firm and substantial. It still manages to have plenty of length. This is another cracking release under this label. Blackcurrant, gum leaf, cedar and violets, with peppercorns and plums filling it out. There's more than a little 'wow' to this. It feels fresh too, in a good way. It's excellent. Date: Feb 2023; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $75.00; Drink by: 2042; Rating: 96 Points & Special Value Star; Campbell Mattinson; James Halliday Wine Companion
