Bay of Fires Chardonnay 2018
Clones I10V5, P58 and B124, Selectiv'-harvested, pressed, barrel-fermented (36% new), matured for 9 months. Tasmania is a happy hunting ground for first class chardonnay, marrying varietal flavour, finesse, length and great balance. White peach/grapefruit is all you need to know. Drink to: 2032; Price: $58.00; Date Tasted: Jan 2020; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion

Scorpo Chardonnay 2018
From a 1ha, three-clone block, hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed direct to barrel (French, 20% new), not batonnage or stirring. Excellent winemaking (minimal interference), with a steady hand. Drink to: 2028; Price: $48.00; Date Tasted: Mar 2019; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion

Cape Mentelle Chardonnay 2017
Hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, wild-fermented. Gleaming straw-green; it takes a millisecond for its flavour mass to reach every corner of the mouth. Has gained further complexity since first tasted in Mar '19, with a twist of grapefruit zest joining white fleshed stone fruit. Drink to: 2030; Date Tasted: Sept 2019; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion

Murdoch Hill Rocket Chardonnay 2017
A new level of excitement and excellence for this gun Adelaide Hills chardonnay producer. As the name suggests, this has power, line and length in abundance. Flinty, carefully curated reductive funk on the nose with lemons, grapefruit and white peaches with crushed hazelnuts. The palate has scythe-like cut through the pristine citrus and stone fruits. The finish has a comet-like trail of fresh, zippy chardonnay fruit. Superb. Drink now or hold. Rating: 97 Points; James Suckling
