Born on 19 September 1895 in the Barossa Valley, Hugo Gramp lived and worked his entire life in this world-renowned wine region.
Lifted aromas of white flowers, wet stone and pithy lemon rind. Focussed, fine and linear in flavour, perky acidity, tangy citrus and with a touch of bath salts.
Light straw with flashes of green and aromas of freshly squeezed lime, grapefruit and green apple with hints of orange blossom, jasmine, crushed stone, makrut lime and lemon zest. Tight, finely structured and vivid, with a swell of limey fruit and minerally acidity on the back end. Drink to: 2036; Date Tasted: October 2024; Alcohol: 11%; Price: $45.00; Rating: 93 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
A delicious, crunchy and zesty Riesling showing aromas of limes, dried lemons and a hint of white flowers. It's medium-bodied with bright acidity. Succulent and juicy, with more lemon character on the palate. Textured and driven, with a long, mouthwatering finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap. Rating: 93 Points; James Suckling
The sourcing is pretty consistent over the years. Roxton vineyard is a key here, and Buckfellas and young quarry. There's a flesh and intensity here that meet the brief for St Hugo, while upholding excellent lemon and grapefruit purity and zesty tension. There's great complexity of spice and apple, with coiled intensity and drive. Great promise. Drink to: 2034; Rating: 93 Points; Tyson Stelzer; Top 250 Wines of the Year 2024
