Set in the charming Tarin Grove Estate, this picturesque property boasts all the history the Hunter has to offer; fields of cattle, rows of vineyards, all set on an enchanting property in the heart of Pokolbin. Born & bred in the Hunter; miner & farmer Ross Crump together with partner Lisa Hugo operate the property and are set out to produce premium, single vineyard wines under the Parched Crow label.
This has a bit more body than is customary for young Hunter Valley semillon but it still has drive and length, and feels (high) quality throughout. Citrus, slate and stonefruit flavours are delivered in dry, assertive style, a gentle rub of texture helping to keep the flow of it all smooth. This is a very good wine, fresh, buoyant and persistent. Alcohol: 13%; Price: $30.00; Rating: 94 Points; Campbell Mattinson
Xxxxx is a crucial part of the vineyards of Pokolbin. Made in a slightly richer style than its sibling, Early Dawn. Pale straw, the nose reveals notes of citrus, melon, florals and grapefruit. There is good intensity here with focus and direction. The wine has poise and very good length. A fine Hunter Semillon which has a long and exciting future, enjoy this for at least ten years. Drink to: 2025-2035; Price: $30.00; Rating: 94 Points; Ken Gargett
