In 1980, Geoff Hardy left the then family company, Thomas Hardy & Sons, to make his own way in the Australian wine world. The same year, he established Pertaringa and since then the Pertaringa vineyards in the foothills behind McLaren Vale have continued to produce some of the region's finest wines. The soils are enriched from the hills above and the cooler climate, further tempered by the sea breezes off St Vincent's Gulf, sets the scene for high quality wine grapes.
It's pristine and beautifully aromatic with Granny Smith apple, fresh fig, nectarine and lemon peel aromas. The palate delivers excellent fruit intensity and lively mouthfeel, leading to a lengthy juicy finish. At its best: now to 2024. Rating: 93 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
They just keep coming – cracking Rieslings and Savvys from the wonderful 2021 vintage. Here is another. Designated as from the ‘Adelaide’ region, this is almost gin clear in colour – just the faintest note of yellow. Lovely tropical notes with ripe gooseberries and passionfruit excelling. Pineapple as well. Soft finish, this is a wine of moderate length and one to chill and enjoy today, with a plate of fresh seafood. Date: April 2022; Drink: 2022-2023; Price: $25; Rating: 90 Points; Ken Gargett; Wine Pilot
