Powerful and concentrated yet velvety smooth. The perfumed aromas of spices, violets and dark plum with a little dark cherry are captivating. The palate is lavish and rich with great texture. An impenetrable deep red to black with some purple around the rim of the glass; the nose gives wonderfully concentrated plum and blackberry fruit that is supported by olive and Christmas cake like spice. The palate is classical Barossa, it is big in every way but it has balance and poise; a sign of a great wine. The fruit is dense and tightly bound, with acidity to support the long term and tannins that give a briny savouriness that is the perfect counterpoint to the wine's mouth filling fruit. A big wine, sure, but there is a real pulse embedded in an undercarriage of power. Despite the weight this is not bereft of detail. Purple pastille, anise, creamy vanillin oak, tapenade and a salubrious signature of textural pedigree melded with just enough freshness. Floral and lifted. Sappy, even.
