Paisley Wines was created in 2016 by Derek Fitzgerald and Kirsten Harvey and combines both of their experience with their mutual passion for music, art and great wine. Paisley Wines is named after the Scottish town near Glasgow with a history of beautiful textile weaving and the home of Kirsten’s great-great grandfather.
From an amazing site in the Southern part of the valley, this exceptional single vineyard wine displays all the characters of a classic Barossa Mataro. The nose is lifted with savoury fruit characters, earthy notes and Indian spices like cardomon and cloves. The palate has great complexity with blackberries, blueberries and hints of Kalamata olive. The toasty oak adds mouthfeel and texture, as do the fine grain tannins. The wine finishes long with roasted meats and berry fruit. Drink now or cellar for up to ten years.
So much to like about this single-vineyard mataro from the Barossa Valley. The distinctive earthy, dry, dusty characters of mataro are evident, but they’re balanced with vibrant red fruits and a subtle plummy influence. The palate is an almost effortless, languid thing that carries with great poise through to a sustained finish. It has a wonderful mouthfeel with slightly grainy tannins, providing texture and accentuating its complex characters. Drinking so well now, but it has plenty of time in the cellar. Cracking good wine. Alcohol: 15%; Drink to: 2025-2043; Rating: 96 Points; Ray Jordan
From a single vineyard in southern Barossa. Wild fermented; partial whole-bunch inclusion; matured 20 months in 20% new French oak barrels; unfined and unfiltered. Mataro in all its glory, celebrating a vivid contrast between depth of blackberry and plum fruit and the savoury allure of dried herbs, fresh leather and spice. Oak steps up, elevating firm, fine-grained, furry, unfined tannins and drawing out a long finish dried by warm alcohol. Everything holds its place confidently. Drink to: 2028; Rating: 93 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
