Established in 1998 Hewitson winery is situated in the heart of the Barossa Valley on the historic Seppeltsfield Road and boasts some of the oldest vines in the World. Our fruit is sourced from these dry-grown, pre-Phylloxera vineyards of the Barossa Valley and also single site vineyards in Eden Valley, McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. We believe great wines are the expression of the soils they are grown in and in the seasons they grow. Through knowledge and experience we strive for balance, structure, concentration, power and breeding.

From the many small parcels of fruit we take in from our growers’ and our own vineyards there is always a stand-out. After fermentation the new wine is carefully matured in specially selected French oak casks in our cellars. A final barrel selection is made and blended before bottling.

Well, I had a suspicion this wine was going to be pretty damn good coming from what was a wonderful season in the Barossa. And to say that it hasn't disappointed is a supreme understatement. It comes from a barrel selection just before bottling, so what you're getting is the best of the best. Highly scented aromas of red fruits and plum, with a little raspberry-strawberry combination. The palate is quite sublime. It's smooth, it's effortless, it's integrated, and it powers through to a sustained finish with so much ease. This is class and polish, and it's a wine that is so well-structured and put together now that you can certainly enjoy it in the short term. This Hewitson Cask 66 Shiraz 2024 ($450) is a fantastic wine. It's so bold and so deep and so immaculately framed, and yet it still finds room for flamboyance. It's a genuine wow wine when you place it on the table and pour it into the glass. It tastes of ozone and kirsch, coffee-cream and caramel, with earth, peppercorn, potpourri and sweet, ripe plums all making plays as it cascades through your mouth.
