Tokar Estate wines are well structured but retain the elegance the Yarra Valley is renowned for. All wines are single vineyard and estate grown.
The four acre Shiraz block was planted in 1997 and now that the vines are mature and deep rooted, they are remarkably vigorous, requiring a lot of work to keep them under control. The results of this work make it worth it as they deliver wonderfully concentrated fruit full of raspberry and pepper with a mineral edge. The vines are spur pruned on VSP trellis and planted in grey clay soil dotted with ironstone and mudstone pebbles. Perhaps these stones contribute to the mineral notes in our Shiraz.

(96 Points) - Royal Melbourne Wine Show 2018
The best shiraz in Australia is on our doorstep, according to the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria. Family-owned winery Tokar Estate's 2017 shiraz has been named the best in Australia at the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards. Tokar Estate has been in the Yarra Valley since 1995, when Leon and Rita Tokar bought the property. It was originally envisioned as a hobby farm, but by 1999 they had planted more than 12 hectares of vines. Their son, Daniel Tokar, is now the general manager. The wine was awarded the RMWA's Trevor Mast Trophy for Best Shiraz, which is named after the longtime winemaker at Mount Langi Ghiran winery. Time Out
