For me, even though this does not boast quite the same lofty price tags as the Platinums, it is my pick of the range from 2018 – an absolute cracker and loved everything about it. A blend of Barossa, Langhorne Creek and McLaren Vale, so textbook Blass, this shows deep reds and purples. Spices, chocolate, ripe notes, blackfruits, coffee beans. Oak, but it is so well integrated that one hardly notices it. Balanced, complex, concentrated and lingering. This is seamless, plush and so wonderfully textural. So much of interest here. Great length, great future and just love that texture with the tannins silkier than in the Platinum Shiraz, plus juicy acidity. This has everything and shows just how good 2018 can be. Drink to: 2024-2040; Price: $130.00; Rating: 98 Points; Ken Gargett

One of Australia's most famous wines thanks to the promotional activities of one Wolfgang Blass, after he triumphed with the Jimmy Watson Trophy in the 70s. This is one of the smoothest and sleekest of any of these. That contribution from Langhorne Creek is an essential part of the wine. Blackberry and blackcurrant notes with a dark chocolate and coffee grinds character pervade. The palate is sublime with the concentrated fruit flavours supported with chalky tannins and some nicely weighted oak. It was a super year and this is a wonderful expression of the vintage. Drink to: 2021-2041; Price: $130.00; Rating: 97 Points; Ray Jordan

56/44% cabernet/shiraz, sourced from Barossa Valley, Langhorne Creek and McLaren Vale; 3 clones in 13 parcels. Matured in French (20% new) and American (4% new) oak for 18 months, blended at the conclusion of maturation. Deeply coloured, this is full bodied, with firm tannins running through the length of the palate, trading blows with the blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, the ultimate balance calling an end to the battle. But it needs time – lots of it. Drink to: 2043; Price: $130.00; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 96 Points; James Halliday; Wine Companion
