Domaine Dujac in Burgundy was acquired by Jacques Seysses in 1967. The domaine in Morey-St-Denis had 4 hectares of vineyards and he has subsequently built it up to 11.5 hectares. Domaine Dujac now includes holdings in Clos de la Roche, Clos St-Denis, Bonnes-Mares, Echézeaux and Charmes-Chambertin . "Use knowledge and technology to counter accidents - for example, bad weather - but, if all is going well, don't interfere," says Seysses and this principle guides much of what happens in the vineyards and the cellars. Dujac wines are neither filtered nor fined and all of his premiers and grands crus are aged in 100% new oak. These are wines of the very highest order.

A very ripe liqueur-like nose speaks of cassis, black cherry and a plenitude of floral nuances. The succulent and punchy flavors possess slightly better density before terminating in a powerful and slightly chewy but long finale. Seysses noted that this was one of the last wines to finish its malo so it's not surprising that it is more primary and backward and my predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt that the finish will better harmonize in time. The first picked as already at 14%, and the last to do its malolactic. A dense, almost supercharged purple. The bouquet is difficult to get to grips with after the very late malo and recent racking. The reductive character and rougher tannins can be put down to this, rather than being inherent in the wine. There is plenty of fruit, so this will be back, after longer elevage.  Date: Nov 2024; Drink: 2032-2038; Rating: 91-94 Points, Jasper Morris; Inside Burgundy

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes finished its malolactic in September, so it's no surprise that it was one of the most inscrutable wines of the tasting. Offering up aromas of cassis and spices, it showed good fruit and underlying structure, but to say much more would be an exercise in more than usually creative writing. Date: Jan 2025; Rating: 90-94 Points; William Kelley; Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
