Domaine Dujac in Burgundy was acquired by Jacques Seysses in 1967. The domaine in Morey-St-Denis had 4 hectares of vineyards and he has subsequently built it up to 11.5 hectares. Domaine Dujac now includes holdings in Clos de la Roche, Clos St-Denis, Bonnes-Mares, Echézeaux and Charmes-Chambertin . "Use knowledge and technology to counter accidents - for example, bad weather - but, if all is going well, don't interfere," says Seysses and this principle guides much of what happens in the vineyards and the cellars. Dujac wines are neither filtered nor fined and all of his premiers and grands crus are aged in 100% new oak. These are wines of the very highest order.
Light reduction is enough to push the fruit to the background. The palate impression of the medium-bodied flavors though is fresh and bright with a gorgeous, indeed silky, mouthfeel that contrasts markedly with the robust and borderline rustic finale that is very firmly structured. This is promising but be prepared to be at least moderately patient. Date: Jan 2025; Drink: 2038+; Rating 92-94 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound
The grapes come equally from Charmes and Mazoyères-Chambertin, though the surface area is greater in the latter. A fine deep crimson purple. The nose is full of energy with a classy ripe fruit, dark strawberry and plum, then the oak slightly takes over on the palate. No worry about that, this wine will storm on through. A very good example, ripe yet satisfying. Date: Nov 2024; Drink: 2032-2040; Rating: 94-96 Points, Jasper Morris; Inside Burgundy
The 2023 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very appealing bouquet, commendable purity of fruit and finely delineated hints of black cherry, raspberry and licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins. There's a beguiling balance and nuance here. This is a total step-up from the Combottes Premier Cru this year, with a long and quite sensual finish. Recommended. Date: Nov 2024; Drink: 2027 - 2047; Rating: 94-96 Points; Neal Martin; Vinous
The 2023 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the more muscular, concentrated wines in the range, offering up aromas of cherries, dark berries, cassis bud and spices, followed by a full-bodied, deep and layered palate framed by ample reserves of sweet, powdery tannin. It's one 2023 that isn't so far removed from the style of its 2022 counterpart. Date: Jan 2025; Rating: 92-94 Points; William Kelley; Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
