The new faces behind the Curtis Family Vineyards are Mark, Thomas & Jenna Curtis, with the guidance of their father, Claudio Curtis who lives on the vineyard just outside McLaren Vale. The name Curtis is thought to derive from Curtius, a noble and wealthy family of the First and Second Centuries AD, the Roman Empire era originating from the Latinium people.
This Small Batch Grenache Shiraz is the perfect blend creating a medium to full-bodied plush palate. Displaying bright & vibrant red fruit characters with hints of spice. The Grenache fruit was selectively handpicked from 120-year-old bush vines.
80yo vines. Hand picked. Destemmed to a whole-berry ferment over 14 days, following a 20 day cold soak. Then, 12 months in all new French oak. A fine nose of blackberry, Seville orange, nori, raspberry bon-bon, clamped by firm cedar tannins from the oak. This may age well. I would like to think so given the vivacity and class of the fruit at hand, despite the ambitious oak handling. Drink to: 2028; Price: $60.00; Date Tasted: Dec 2020; Alcohol: 14%; Rating: 92 Points; Ned Goodwin MW; James Halliday Wine Companion
