Established by the Lloyd family in 1967, Coriole is family owned and operated and has established a reputation for being a dynamic and innovative producer. Sangiovese was pioneered in Australia by Coriole with the first plantings in 1985. Other Italian varieties such as Fiano have Coriole at the forefront of alternative varieties. Chenin Blanc & Shiraz have a long and successful history at Coriole, with the flagship, Lloyd Reserve Shiraz included in Langton's Classified Wines of Australia.

Produced from a two-acre vineyard was planted in 1920 in the foothills of Willunga. The soils are deep, gravelly loams and this block shows beautiful old vine complexity with a suppleness of the rich Willunga soils.

Blueberry, blackberry, mint chocolate, nougat, lavender and dried herb perfume. It’s full-bodied, dark and ferrous, blue and red fruit, a distinct dark mint chocolate and fondant thing here, dense packed tannin, a whole mesh of old vine power, salted high cocoa chocolate and oyster shell on a fresh finish of excellent length. This is a beautifully crafted, prodigiously rich iteration of Vale shiraz. Arguably a bit OTT, yet one cannot deny the pleasure trove of kitsch, mint, anise and mocha expanding with old-vine vinous force. The oak, beautifully embedded. The extraction, à point. A slither of sweetness emerges across the structural barriers, yet the best approach is simply to give in.
