Crabtree is situated in the heart of the historic and iconic Watervale district, the tasting room and courtyard (set in the produce cellar of the original 1850s homestead) looking out over the estate vineyard. The winery was founded in 1984 by Robert Crabtree, who built a considerable reputation for medal-winning riesling, shiraz and cabernet sauvignon. In 2007 it was purchased by an independent group of wine enthusiasts, and the winery firmly continues in the tradition of estate-grown premium wines.

This Riesling, sourced from vines on our estate aged between 22 and 46 years, has everything you expect from a Watervale Riesling. The bouquet is redolent with fresh lemon and lime, touches of orange blossom and notes of wild flowers. On the palate, the wine is perfectly balanced with a fresh citrus backing.

So much to like about this excellent riesling, which comes from vines between 23 and 47 years old. The aim has been to retain the largely free-run juice, resulting in a beautifully pure and vibrant young riesling with a high degree of delicacy. The nose shows fairly typical lemony, edgy lime characters with lovely florals. The palate really delivers with an intensity and drive that is very much in keeping with the variety. The team have talked about 2026 as providing their very best Rieslings in the Estate's history. They wouldn't be the first to make what might seem like somewhat outlandish claims, but early indications are that this is proving to be a fantastic vintage for Clare Valley Riesling, and there is no doubt that this is a cracking Riesling. The vines here are between 23 and 47 years of age. The colour is the palest lemon hue one could imagine. A very classy Clare Riesling with notes of limes, citrus, wet slate, jasmine and glacéd lemon. Beautifully aromatic, this is focused, full of energy and life, and offering excellent length. There is a fine line of juicy acidity running the journey and a lingering finish.
