Domaine de Bellene is located in Beaune in buildings steeped in history, dating from the 16th century. The origin of the domain name: "Bellene" comes from the name of the city of Beaune. The 24 hectares of vineyards stretch across many appellations and are all focused on organic farming. Winemaker Nicolas Potel goal is for Bellene to be Burgundy's first outright major organic Domaine.
Good substance and depth for 'basic' Bourgogne, thanks to the old vines - in this case from a single 3.7ha site with average vine age of 67 years. It shows quite ripe cherry/raspberry fruit, a touch of violet, barrel toast, spice and vanilla. Although not specified it seems to me to be more a Cotes de Nuits style. It is medium weight, quite firm and voluminous with good acidity and some heat. More mineral. Excellent length. Best 2027 to 2035. Rating: 92 Points; David Lawrason
