One of the greatest names in all of Burgundy, dating back to the 1930s when Armand was one of the first of five domaines to defy the negociants and bottle their own wine. The Rousseau name is synonymous with Gevrey-Chambertin; Armand passed the reins to Charles who on retirement passed control to his son Eric.

A slightly more deeply colored hue is in keeping with the somewhat riper, and certainly spicier, aromas of both red and dark currant, exotic tea and more prominent floral nuances, all of which is also trimmed in enough wood to mention. The medium weight plus flavors are almost as powerful as those of the Chambertin if not quite so mineral-driven while displaying equally superb length and complexity on the balanced, graceful and compact finale. While qualitatively quite similar to the Chambertin, as is typically the case, these offer two very different expressions. Date: Jan 2023; Drink: 2038+; Issue: 89; Rating 94-96 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound

The most dramatic wine in the cellar is the 2021 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru, a full-bodied, fleshy, enveloping wine that bursts with aromas of sweet cherries, dark berry fruit and plums mingled with notions of licorice, spices and smoked duck. Deep and layered, it concludes with a broad, expansive finish. Date: Feb 2023; Rating: 94-96 Points; William Kelley; Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
