Born on 19 September 1895 in the Barossa Valley, Hugo Gramp lived and worked his entire life in this world-renowned wine region.
Ripe, silky cabernet sauvignon with cassis, blackcurrant, liquorice, leather and baked earth flavours. The wine has a firm backbone of sweet tannins and will clearly develop well with further bottle age, but it is also surprisingly accessible now. Elegance on a grand scale. Date Tasted: May 2017; Drink: 2017 to 2030; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $56.00; Rating: 96 Points; Bob Campbell MW; The Real Review
Stylish and pristine, this elegant and finely focused cabernet has a faintly mineral and herbal bouquet of intense cassis, dark plums, mulberries and earthy undertones overlying perfumed cedary and faintly chocolatey oak. Its handsomely oaked, long and penetrative palate of pristine dark berry and plum flavour is framed by a firm, grippy backbone, smoothing out towards a plush and lingering finish of vibrant fruit and peppermint. Drink: 2014 to 2032+; Rating: 94 Points; Jeremy Oliver
