Mulline Vintners is a collaboration between 2 Bens. Collectively, Ben Mullen + Ben Hine are Mulline Vintners.
A single-vineyard wine from the Surf Coast, the vineyard planted in '01; 80% whole bunches and matured in 30% new barriques. A bright, deep crimson. Ultra perfumed and lifted with its bouquet of brambly red fruits, rose bush and warm spices. Medium bodied, this is both sumptuous and beautifully delineated on the very long, classically structured palate. Absolutely tops from beginning to end and a wine destined to age effortlessly over the next decade or longer. Drink to: 2035; Date Tasted: Feb 2025; Alcohol: 13%; Price: $65.00; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
This is an interesting wine, and a very good one. It's earthen and brambly with red cherry and smoky, stalky characters littered throughout. It's ripe, and has good mouthfeel, and is finely stitched with tannin, and has more than its fair share of umami-like characters; it's an earth-pinot. What's most impressive about this wine is its extension through the finish; it just keeps on pushing. It's yet more evidence of the excellence of Mulline. Drink: 2026-2031; Rated: 95 Points; Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front
