In 2016 Alex Russell & Lara Suitor started a family and relocated to Lara’s hometown and family in Launceston and they both set their sights on the cooler climate wine making region of Pipers River.

This refined cool climate Tasmanian Chardonnay displays aromas of white peach, citrus blossom and subtle notes of toasted hazelnut. Six months on yeast and malolactic lees with gentle oak maturation have added layers of texture and complexity. The palate is creamy yet balanced by vibrant acidity, showing notes of stone fruit, lemon curd, and a touch of vanilla.

Good Tasmanian chardonnay, when it's young, has a great ability to be both elegant and reticent but also, at the same time, compelling. This makes these wines great to drink whilst young but also to look forward to. This release from Russell & Suitor is an excellent example of this phenomenon. It tastes of citrus and chamomile, white peach and chalk, tonic water, meal and smoked cream. It feels good, tastes good, and is interesting. It will also be an even better drink in another couple of years. For now, it's clear that we're in the hands of a quality producer. Date Tasted: March 2026; Alcohol: 13.0%; Price: $50.00; Rating: 93+ Points; Campbell Mattinson
