The dictionary definition of ‘Riposte’ (pronounced rip-posst) is comeback, reply, retort, or in the context of the sport of fencing a quick counter stroke. After over a decade of confusion about his name ‘Riposte’ was chosen as an appropriate name for a ‘comeback label’ by Tim Knappstein.

Ripe yellow peach, pear, honeydew melon, yellow apple and hint of crème brûlée. Flavours are generous but also fine-edged, with finely-tuned acidity providing some impressive drive. Palate is layered in summer stone fruits with yellow peach in the lead role. Good width across the middle palate, texturally bright, too. Plenty to like and enjoy here. Rating: 93 Points; Jeni Port

Initial wafts of flint and roast nuts. Soon bridges into a herbal and lime leaf aromatic, with senses of green citrus flavours following in the mouth, chalk-dust minerality in hugs and textural support for a neatly toned, fruit-forward Hills Chardonnay. Rating: 93 Points; Tony Love

A great take on modern Chardonnay. For a very reasonable $29, you are drinking well. The shape and flow draw you in effortlessly. Opening with a burst of lemon juice, it gradually reveals layers of intrigue. A pastry-like texture and vanilla cream contribute to the terrific width and flow. That length has graceful, dainty feet and glides through urging you to come back for more. Delightful stuff and excellent value. Rating: 93 Points; QWine
