Set in the charming Tarin Grove Estate, this picturesque property boasts all the history the Hunter has to offer; fields of cattle, rows of vineyards, all set on an enchanting property in the heart of Pokolbin. Born & bred in the Hunter; miner & farmer Ross Crump together with partner Lisa Hugo operate the property and are set out to produce premium, single vineyard wines under the Parched Crow label.

Hunter chardonnay can sometimes slip under the radar, yet when it does well, it's a particularly fine wine. This is fine and almost delicate, yet with a deep, lingering intensity. There's a tropical fruit–cashew combination emerging on the nose with a lemon zest edge. The palate has a slightly creamy texture, but it's held tight and controlled with fine acidity and some nice influence of new French oak puncheons. I really enjoy drinking this style of wine when it's young, yet it has everything to handle some cellaring over the next 10 years. Most attractive style. Drink to: 2025-2036; Price: $30.00; Rating: 94 Points; Ray Jordan

This chardonnay pours on the flavour. It has good length, and freshness, but at heart it delivers a satisfying serve of toasted peach, butter, cedar, pear and woodsy spice flavour. It feels rich and generous – not to mention, delicious. Alcohol: 13%; Price: $30.00; Rating: 92 Points; Campbell Mattinson
