Planted in 2001 by Peter Dredge; The ‘Clos’ is a weathered 2 acre block sitting atop his Jackson’s Lane vineyard. Its ancient Cambrian soil resembles crumbled stone walls and is ladened with shaley jasper, sandstone and ancient volcanic quartz . The name reflects some of the best French vineyards which are enclosed by stone walls and are known for their purity and individual terroir. The Clos Shiraz is minerally, ferrous and earthy; exemplifying the famous Heathcote terroir. Only 900 bottles were made with minimal intervention, aged in French puncheons for two years and gravity bottled without fining or filtration. With careful cellaring, the Red Edge Clos Shiraz will live and reward for twenty years.
