Pettavel Estate traces its historic roots back to 1842, when Swiss-born vigneron David Pettavel, arrived in Port Phillip aboard the ship Platina. Bringing with him the premium Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier cuttings from Dijon, he partnered with Brequet to establish the pioneering “Neuchâtel Vineyard” in Geelong. Pettavel Estate played a pivotal role in the resurgence of the Geelong wine region from the 1960s onwards. Today, Pettavel remains the largest vineyard in the region.
The colour is a brilliant crimson-purple, suggesting a wine of great vibrancy and energy. Aromatics reveal lovely bright red fruits with cherry and raspberry notes and a liberal touch of spice. The palate delivers a burst of intense flavours with red fruits, a light truffle-like character and lifted spices. Oak integration is nigh on perfect and the finish is long and focused. An excellent example of Yarra pinot noir. Drink to: 2026-2036; Alcohol: 13.2%; Price: $40.00; Rating: 95 Points; Ray Jordan
