Mt Bera’s 157ha of lush hills and valley have evolved from an 1851 commercial orchard to the biodynamically grown vineyards of today. The 1990s marked the beginning of how the Horner family’s passion shaped Mt Bera’s identity, producing wines of elegance, purity and a true expression of its source.

The wine presents a deep ruby to dark plum-purple hue in the glass. The bouquet is immediately expressive, offering a complex blend of dark plum, blackberries, and dried cherries, layered with savoury notes of smoked meats, bay leaves, and warm earth. Nuances of lavender, rose petal, and a hint of chocolate add a fragrant lift.

A fine Adelaide Hills red. The Temp vines here were originally grafted onto old Merlot vines back in 2011. The following year saw more vines grafted over, given the success of the initial project. This is dark maroon in colour. Deep aromas of dark berries, roast meats, animal skins, spices and chocolate with good focus. This is a really good Temp and has avoided the pitfalls that a lack of acidity, often apparent with this grape, can inflict. This has freshness and a vibrant acid backing, fine tannins and impressive length so six to eight years of fine drinking await here. Drink to: 2022-2030; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 94 Points; Ken Gargett

How good is it to try a Tempranillo with a little age on it. This one from the Adelaide Hills has come together really beautifully. A little leathery spice has moved in on the plush red fruits with that little dusty edge adding to the picture. It’s medium bodied and generous with a deliciously appealing mouth feel. Drink to: 2024-2035; Price: $35.00; Rating: 93 Points; Ray Jordan
