It was 1990 when Jeff Burch crossed paths with Pascal Marchand in the cellars of Domaine Comte Armand in Pommard. A fast friendship quickly formed, with passion for Pinot Noir as its foundation. A decade later they embraced the possibilities of a unique collaboration, and began the Marchand & Burch Collection. Since 2007 Marchand & Burch has grown to represent a sophisticated expression of terroir through fine wines produced in Western Australia’s Great Southern region and the Côte d’Or in Burgundy, France. Three decades on, the friendship endures while the wines tell an exciting, evolving story.

The fantastic dark red-black hue, the sway aromas of woodsmoke, dark fruits, baking spices and florals all point to a very big wine. It isn’t so. Yes, there’s density, richness, plushness and a full-bodied palate but everything in its place is contained and super smooth. Drink to: 2033; Price: $60.00; Date Tasted: March 2023; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 94 Points; Jane Faulkner; James Halliday Wine Companion

There is a beguiling combination of deep dark fruits with a vibrant red fruit lift. It creates such an engaging high energy palate. Aroma of high end florals with spices sitting across the red fruits of blackberry and lifted cranberry. The palate has a chalky minerality with a sprinkle of cocoa and a splash of cola. Long and seamless with a strong sense of the vineyard here. Drink: 2023 - 2028; Rating: 94 Points; Ray Jordan
