Established in 1998 Hewitson winery is situated in the heart of the Barossa Valley on the historic Seppeltsfield Road and boasts some of the oldest vines in the World. Our fruit is sourced from these dry-grown, pre-Phylloxera vineyards of the Barossa Valley and also single site vineyards in Eden Valley, McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. We believe great wines are the expression of the soils they are grown in and in the seasons they grow. Through knowledge and experience we strive for balance, structure, concentration, power and breeding.
This is good. It’s soft and powdery with red cherry, a little liquorice root and spice, and a floral/bergamot thing happening. It has some weight and flavour, but tastes dry, and the finish is even and long. Texture is so pleasing. Gentle and lovely. Date: Apr 2023; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $30; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2023-2024+; Rated: 93 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
This is instantly appealing on the nose with sweet strawberry, creaming soda and citrus peel aromas, followed by a juicy palate offering youthful fruit flavours with vibrant acidity, making it highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2025. Rating: 93 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
As you would expect from Dean Hewitson, this rosé is made from his beloved mourvèdre and it paints a pretty picture. Salmon pink in the glass with aromas and flavours of redcurrant, raspberry, red cherry and grapefruit cut with gentle soft spice, white and red flowers, almond paste and stone. Some nice fruit sweetness is tempered by stony acidity finishing long, red-fruited and moreish. Date: Mar 2023; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $30.00; Drink by: 2026; Rating: 92 Points & Special Value Star; Dave Brookes; James Halliday Wine Companion
Gee whiz, I do like this rosé. It’s a blend of Mourvèdre and Cinsault from the Barossa and strikes a wonderful balance between some nice, sweet strawberry nuances and a dry savouriness that is a feature of the finishing palate. Nicely textured with a fine acid to control the lines. Date: May 2023; Price: $30.00; Drink: 2023-2026; Rating: 91 Points; Ray Jordan; WinePilot
A nod to Provence, with 83% Mourvèdre and 17% Cinsault. Very pale salmon. Fine, tight and drying nose: old chalk dust, paper reams, hints of redcurrant, rose petal, cherry blossom and strawberry leaf. Generous front palate of easy red summer crunchy fruits then layered with a waxy weight and a serious drying, dusty grip. Carries more than your average Rosé.
