Grosset Wines philosophy has remained steadfast over thirty years. The emphasis is on purity of fruit.  The organically managed vineyards are hand tended, and each bunch of grapes is harvested at optimum ripeness. The winemaking process is gentle and uncomplicated.  With dedication, discipline and the application of knowledge garnered through decades of experience, the result is the finest expression of variety and place.

With its first vintage in 2012, ‘Alea’ is the most recent of the Grosset rieslings. The result of three years of painstaking experimentation in the vineyard, it is made in the style of the rieslings of Germany and Austria. While the Grosset Springvale vineyard is a soft rock site of red loam over limestone, ‘Alea’ is a hard rock site and the wines are distinctly different. There are lemon juice and lime pith aromatics, a generosity of lime juice flavours, a touch of sweetness on the backpalate balanced by refreshingly powerful natural acidity.

This has powerful aromatics - enticing lemon, lime blossom, with dried herb notes and hints of shaley minerality. Its concentration and underlying power give it the appearance of having an additional layer of flavour - pure intense lime juice at its core - with just a hint of sweetness giving it its distinctive character. The wine's pristine bracing acidity dominates the finish which is taut, long and dry.
