Thanks to its unique location in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily has always been at the crossroads of maritime trade routes and international influence. Feudo Arancio, the Orange Farm, cultivates two estates along the southern coast of the island, in Sambuca and Acate. The carefully mapped vineyards are a tapestry of soil types, elevations and exposures, with each plot planted to the variety where it is best suited.

This wine expresses the elegance and fruitiness of the Nero d’Avola, a historic Sicilian variety that was the main character of the rebirth of Sicilian enology. This wine is produced with grapes which are grown in our estate vineyards of Ragusa and Agrigento areas: two zones which have completely different climatic conditions and soil characteristics.

This producer's top red comes from their estate vineyards at Ragusa and Agrigento, with the aim to provide contrast and complexity. Made from Nero d'Avola. The wine is deep red/garnet in colour. The nose is immediately expressive with notes of cherries, warm earth, tobacco leaves, leather and hints of chocolate and plums. There is good complexity here with a supple, balanced palate and a line of good acidity running the length. The tannins are especially fine but there is certainly plenty of them. Nice balance throughout, this is impressive stuff and will drink well over the next decade. Drink to: 2022-2032; Price: $40.00; Rating: 93 Points; Ken Gargett

Enjoyable aromatics of plum and black cherry that are floral, with a touch of boot leather. Rich, ripe and rounded palate with generous plum and raspberry fruits that are lifted by spice and milk chocolate. Lovely balance to finish with spiced plum lingering. Drink to: 2022-2028; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 93 Points; Patrick Eckel; The Wine Reviewer
