Deep Woods Estate was established in 1987 and acquired by the Fogarty family in 2005, making it part of the Fogarty Wine Group. Under the FWG banner, Deep Woods Estate has been transformed into one of Margaret River’s most awarded and highly regarded wineries. This wine has been crafted utilising fruit sourced from three separate blocks on the estate: Blocks 3 and 4 of premium 25-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines; and Block 5 Merlot planted in 1987. A small amount of Cabernet and Malbec from the neighbouring property of Abbey Vale features in the blend.

Ripe aromas of currants, damson plums and toasted spice. A medium- to full-bodied wine filled with flavours of red berries and plums with underlying spice from the oak. Approachable tannins add length and characteristic regional structure. Ready to enjoy on release but will find further complexity over the first five years from vintage.

A consistent value-for-money offering from one of the best producers in Margaret River. A slightly leaner style to previous vintages, the result of this cooler vintage. Still, the fruit weight balance and all thing nice are in place to make for excellent current drinking. Rating: 90 Points & Top 100 Reds for 2021; Ray Jordan
