The new faces behind the Curtis Family Vineyards are Mark, Thomas & Jenna Curtis, with the guidance of their father, Claudio Curtis who lives on the vineyard just outside McLaren Vale. The name Curtis is thought to derive from Curtius, a noble and wealthy family of the First and Second Centuries AD, the Roman Empire era originating from the Latinium people.

A very fine McLaren from a superb vintage, drinking beautifully now but offering even more down the track. The nose gives us blackcurrants, chocolate, cloves, aniseed, black fruits, mocha, plums and delicatessen meats with good focus. The palate is more refined and elegant than the nose might suggest and that works very well here. Plenty of power and concentration with firm tannins and excellent length. Drink to: 2025-2039; Price: $70.00; Rating: 94 Points; Ken Gargett

Inky red wine with cherry/berry and vanilla flavours. Generously proportioned wine with a tangy thread of ripe acidity gives drinkability and suggests cellaring potential. Clearly youthful. Drink: 2025 to 2032; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $70.00; Rating: 94 Points; Bob Campbell MW; The Real Review

Rich, plum-shot fruit comes coated in toast, resin, cream and vanilla. It’s a mouthfilling red wine, powerful from the attack to the finish, bold with flavour and well structured by dry, assertive tannin. Blackberry, toffee, nougat, pure plum and violet characters team harmoniously with the lashings of oak, creating a dramatic red wine. Price: $70; Rated: 93 Points; Campbell Mattinson
