Yarraloch is unashamedly inspired by the great wines of Europe. The singular focus of YarraLoch is to create world class wines from the Yarra Valley which are distinguished by their elegance, balance and complexity.
This is a slightly finer expression of Chardonnay, and reflects the slightly higher proportion of Mendoza clone, bringing that intense acidity into play. It was made with whole bunch pressing, barrel fermentation, and full solids, with time in oak for about 13 months on lees. That's all generated tremendous concentration and layered complexity, while the fine focus extends through to a very long finish. The oak influence sits harmoniously and is perfectly balanced. I love that slightly chalky acid, gunsmoke character that introduces yet another level of complexity, especially on the palate. First-rate wine. There's a power of fruit flavour here. This is a pretty special wine. One sip and it's Hang On territory. Peach, cedar, citrus, grapefruit and roasted nut flavours of excellent dimension. It hits and then it keeps on hitting. So very impressive. Tasted: July 2025; Alcohol: 13%; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2026-2030+; Price: $80.00; Rated: 94+ Points; Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front
This is a single vineyard Yarra Valley Chardonnay, made in a similar manner to the Estate wine. Again, 100% barrel fermentation after whole bunch pressing, wild yeasts, with the oak all 500-litre French puncheons, 37% new. Just 248 cases were made. Lemon straw in colour, the nose reveals spicy notes along with herbs, cashews, stone fruits, apricot skins and gives the impression of a breeze blowing gently across lavender fields. The oak is deftly handled and we see the emergence of some early complexity. The wine has balance, length, intensity, power and it really does need another two to three years before it will really kick into gear. At that stage, the sky is the limit. And it should drink beautifully for the following eight to ten years. Date: Sept 2025; Drink to: 2025-2035; Price: $80.00; Rating: 94 Points; Ken Gargett
