Made by the guys at Hoddles Creek; the Wickhams Road wines are made with the same philosophy used with Hoddles Creek. They are single vineyard wines with the care and attention that has made Hoddles Creek such a success. The difference with Wickhams Road is that it has been sourced from trusted growers around Victoria. Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

More forward than the Hoddles Creek estate range, this Pinot has a dark berry nose with a black cherries and plum on the palate. A combination of Upper Yarra Valley fruit and some experimental blocks off Hoddles. The wine sees about 20% whole bunches in the ferment to give spice and fine tannins. Spends about 20 days on skins and is bottled without fining or filtration.

Rich and spicy, dense and firm in structure with a cinnamon spice and floral perfume over ripe cherry and raspberry. It’s full of flavour, with depth of fruit and a sappy dried herb undertow. Finish offers perfume, succulent fruit, a subtle amaro bitterness, and fine length. It’s a very strong release here, with more to come. Tasted: Nov 19; Alcohol: 13.2%; Price: $19; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2020-2026+; Rated: 91+ Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
