Bannockburn Vineyards was established by Stuart Hooper in 1974.His vision was to create a vineyard which would produce Australian wine of a quality to emulate the great wines of France, in particular the great Burgundies. Stuart Hooper had a purist, uncompromising approach to quality grape growing and winemaking. He had a strong belief in making wines which genuinely reflect the flavours of the vineyard.

Although Stuart has since passed away, Bannockburn Vineyards remains in the Hooper family and his philosophy remains as the cornerstone behind all we do at Bannockburn today.

De La Terre is named in reference to our ethos; ‘of the earth’. The block is made up of two sections: east-west row orientation on an east facing slope and north-south row orientation on the upper flat adjacent to the Serré block.

Clones planted in two blocks, one east–west, the other north–south, mostly 777, some 114. Hand picked, 100% whole bunches, 10 days' carbonic maceration, destemmed to complete fermentation then pressed to French hogsheads (25% new) for 10 months' maturation. Gloriously bright and clear; highly perfumed dried flowers and multi spices soar from the glass without agitation. The palate enters by stealth, then breaks free on the long, intense palate. Date: Sept 2023; Alcohol: 13%; Price: $80.00; Drink by: 2032; Rating: 96 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
