Vasse Felix were briefed in the seventies by Margaret River’s founding vigneron Dr Tom Cullity, to make the best possible wine. Heytesbury is a flagship regional Cabernet, the fruits of over thirty years of viticulture at Vasse Felix. Balance, elegance, complexity and restrained power are the hallmarks of Heytesbury, the direct result of an uncompromising approach to quality. Heytesbury embodies the Vasse Felix commitment to excellence, and as such is named after the Holmes à Court family company, to which Vasse Felix is the crowning jewel
Established in 1967, the Vasse Felix estate vineyard is planted at the heart of the Wilyabrup sub region, within the nucleus of premium Margaret River viticulture. Low yielding, dry grown vines planted on some of the world’s oldest soils enjoy long, warm growing seasons and cooling summer breezes from the nearby Indian and Southern Oceans. This moderating effect is responsible for grapes exhibiting exceptional concentration and intensity whilst retaining elegance and finesse. Parcels of ultra premium fruit are fermented separately in small, static fermenters to retain the unique characters of the site before being basket pressed and sent to the finest of French oak barriques.
Best Chardonnay of the Year - James Halliday Wine Companion Wine Awards 2026
2026 White Wine of the Year, Chardonnay of the Year. Score awarded by the Halliday tasting panel at the annual Awards judging. JF writes: When it comes to the best of the best, provenance is paramount. And taste memory utmost, especially when tasting Heytesbury made under Virginia Willcock’s tutelage (in ’26 she clocks up 20 years as chief winemaker at Vasse Felix, during which time she has transformed chardonnay in the region and beyond). Her influence is here in this wine, and ’23 will be known as one of the finest. It's hard to explain because it’s still very tightly wound, yet it has depth and volume. Oscillating between power and refinement, intensity and pure drinking pleasure. Grapefruit, Meyer lemon, a crushed oyster shell note, flinty, moreish sulphides, texture, mouth-watering, pure acidity and so much more besides. Nothing else to say other than that this is outstanding. Date: Feb 2025; Alcohol: 13%; Price: $140.00; Drink by: 2036; Rating: 99 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
