The Story Wines was established in 2004 by Rory Lane and is a small independent winery sourcing fruit from vineyards in the Grampians, Henty and Whitlands regions of Victoria and turn them into wine. Each vintage there is a new story to tell; of plenty or pain, frenzied action and sumptuousness, the hard beauty of the land and its engaging subjects – those vineyards, people, small budgets and big emotions, all boiled down and bottled and drunk with gusto.
One block, two separate fermentations, maturation in old French oak and one new hogshead. A super cool, late year and a wine that is mighty fine and almost delicate in its beauty. A haunting fragrance in violet florals, black fruits, dusty cacao, black pepper and lifted spices. Flavours translate effortlessly to the palate, fine-edged and bright, dressed in silky tannins and well fleshed out while retaining a layer of gentle spice that stays with you as a remembrance of something truly special. Drink to: 2034; Date Tasted: January 2025; Alcohol: 13.0%; Price: $45.00; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
