To anyone that has met Kym Teusner and Mick Page, it would come as no surprise to discover that Teusner Wines was conceived over a few beers at the local pub. Scratching together a bit of cash, the fruit from an old Barossa vineyard found a new home and Teusner Wines came to life. Teusner’s philosophy comes down to two simple words. Righteous Pleasure. Let the righteous flavours found in the old Barossa vineyards take center stage in the wines and bring pleasure to those that put their hand in their pocket to buy them. It’s a simple approach, but one that has gained Teusner an army of fans and had the commentators and critics singing the praises of his wines as modern day benchmarks for the Barossa Valley.
A truly gorgeous Eden Valley riesling, the bouquet full of citrus blossom, the palate overflowing with lime, grapefruit and Meyer lemon, the high tensile acidity a perfect anchor for consumption today or 10 years hence. This from a red wine specialist! Drink to: 2035; Price: $27.00; Alcohol: 12.5%; Rating: 96 Points & Special Value Star & Top 100 Wines of 2021; James Halliday; Top 100 Wines of 2021
From the very strong 2021 Eden Valley vintage comes this textured, expansive offering from Teusner. Freshly squeezed lime juice, cut with floral flecks, almond paste and stone. The wine swells in the mouth, with pure limey fruit blossoming outwards, cut with mineral acidity and a faint tweak of phenolic pithiness. Stoney and dry, with a citrus blast on the finish. Drink to: 2030; Price: $27.00; Date Tasted: Oct 2021; Alcohol: 12.5%; Rating: 92 Points & Special Value Star; Dave Brookes; James Halliday Wine Companion
Lovely flavour here. Maybe a whisper of sweetness to it, maybe not, no matter either way, the burst of lemon-lime-bath-salt-like flavour is the thing. This leaps from the glass both on the nose and on the palate in the most pleasing of ways. Apple and citrus-rind characters add yet more. It’s an excellent option for this coming summer. 12.5% alc. $27 Screwcap Drink: 2021 - 2028+; Rating: 92 Points; Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front
