There is already debate as to whether 2021 or 2022 is the better vintage for Riesling in the Clare Valley. It hardly matters if they declare a winner at some stage in the distant future because both are seriously good years. Stock up. Drop Zone Wines target parcels of quality grapes to make their wines. This cracking Riesling is from a single vineyard in the famed Clare Valley. It is worth noting at the outset that this is clearly made with the intention of being a drink now style, but Riesling cannot go against its nature. Sure, enjoy it today, but it will also age nicely for another 6 to 8 years.
What strikes you immediately is the gorgeous perfumes emanating from the glass as soon as the wine is poured. Like a summer breeze wafting across a lavender field. Spices, a hint of bath salts and a touch of citrus, notably a gentle grapefruit note. It is, what we might deem, a pretty wine. The palate is clean and fresh and there is some richness evident. A wine of mid length. Thoroughly enjoyable drinking. A touch more length would not hurt but for its purposes, it hardly matters. Price: $27.00; Drink: 20xx - 20xx; Rating: 92 Points; Ken Gargett; Wine Pilot
