Rosenthal Wines is a boutique winery located in Denmark on the south coast of Western Australia in the Great Southern wine region. Owned and operated by the Eckersley and Ladwig families. Best mates and winemakers Luke Eckersley and Coby Ladwig have held the reins of Rosenthal Wines since 2012. The brand was originally established in 2001 by Dr John Rosenthal with a small vineyard holding in Manjimup with a focus on Shiraz and Cabernet. Since 2012 the boys have increased production and added several vineyards to the fruit resources as well as a range of wines.

The origins of the name Rosenthal mean a “person who came from an area where there was a valley of Roses”. Rosenthal is an affluent area in Germany, known for its beautiful gardens, with its coat of arms displaying a wheel surrounded by roses. Thus “Garten”, refers to a Garden of Roses. With strong symbolic ties to the Rose, the Garten label reflects these historical ties to this beautiful flora.

Brilliant medium straw. Lifted bouquet of nectarine, waxy citrus leaf and toasty oak. The palate has a beautiful elegant structure combining weight and richness with delicate spicy, vanillin oak flavours wrapped around a grapefruit acidity.

Soured from Pemberton, which has contributed to an almost delicate restraint that presents so well. Barrel fermented with a small portion of wild yeast and then a mix of 10% new oak and older oak maturation. The textural element has been introduced through four months of lees stirring. It's creamy and smooth with a nectarine and almond meal combination sitting within the palate. There is also a lively minerality with a slightly crystalline texture. Tasted: March 2023; Drink: 2023 - 2030; Price: $35.00; Rating: 92 Points; Ray Jordan
